LINK Lab at CSCL in Gothenburg, Sweden
George Siemens and Matt Crosslin attended "Exploring the Material Conditions of Learning": The 11th International Conference on Computer Supported Collaborative Learning in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 7-11, 2015.
- Matt had a great view of Toronto on the way to the conference.
- The opening keynote by Steve Woolgar on "Narratives of Mundane Governance" raised some interesting questions.
- Then Matt got out and tried to walk off some jet lag.
- The next day was off to a good start.
- The session that George and Matt were a part of - "Challenges and Opportunities of Dual-Layer MOOCs" - generated some good interest and conversation on Twitter.
- Looking at the very cool #dalmooc visual syllabus http://linkresearchlab.org/dalmooc and dual layer map http://linkresearchlab.org/dalmooc/tools/ at #cscl2015
- Here is @LINKResearchLab with some our great #dalmooc partners at #cscl2015 https://twitter.com/danceedxopen/status/608270468873875457 …
- So, @grandeped adjusted quickly to a sudden presentation responsibility that was thoroughly planned about 30 seconds before :) #cscl15
- Great interactive session hosted by @danceedxopen at #cscl2015 on supporting social learning in MOOCs.
- The big question we need to ask is: do we want to continue teaching what to learn, or shift to teaching how to learn? #heutagogy #cscl2015
- “@alywise: cool #dalmooc visual syllabus http://linkresearchlab.org/dalmooc and dual layer map http://linkresearchlab.org/dalmooc/tools/ at #cscl2015”
- This was the view we had of most of the key notes - have to show up early!
- The next day started with our regular coffee shop session with George, Dragan, and who ever else they invited to join us. This particular session was with Piotr of EdX.
- George was part of a panel on "Learning Analytics of and in Meditational Processes of Collaborative Learning" that generated a lot of interest.
- #cscl2015 nice session #learninganalytics nice examples and also reflective about what is needed, e.g. theories that give meaning to data
- Siemens: We are making progress on computational/analysis part, but need frameworks to know what’s happening #cscl2015 #learninganalytics
- Siemens: We need to think more about the humans that are in the space & cultural factors that impact decisions #cscl2015 #learninganalytics
- #cscl2015 George Siemens: why are we doing #learninganalytics ?motivation behind it leads to other trajectories
- There was also time for exploring, interacting, and posting random thoughts.
- George was also part of the "Grand Challenges in Technology-Enhanced Learning" session.
- We are kicking of #csclchallenge at #cscl2015. What are the grand challenges that learning researchers face in different communities?
- speaker on #csclchallenge invokes eudaimonia (feeling and living well) in relation to #learninganalytics #cscl2015
- And finally it was time to wrap up, summarize, and head home.
